Big Record

<aside> ❤️‍🔥 I love music, I love discovering new artists and new genres, and I listen to tons of new projects, all the time. I have built this library so I can remember everything that passes through my ears, to note my thoughts and to gain insights about my listening history. This is my digital method of loci.

In a nutshell

Big record was made through four main steps.

  1. 📥 Data extract. I requested to Spotify an extract of my whole streaming history. I then processed and cleaned this data to make it intelligible and more faithful to reality. I've really been using Spotify since 2018, so before that year, the data is much less exhaustive. This first step gave me most of the records logged and the data related to Title, Artist and Streamed.
  2. 🧹 Manual treatment. I manually reviewed more than 2.000 records. I filled almost every columns one by one (Genre, Format, Released, Country, Continent, Rating, Badge, Vinyl, Notes, Musicboard, Source). It took me days - but I still think it was fun!
  3. 🖼️ Artworks. For this one, I played it differently. With the precious help of a friend, I developed my own little computer program that automatically retrieves album artworks via the Deezer API and load it to Notion.
  4. 🔄 Repeat. Since then, every week or so, I log the new records I’ve been listening to.
